All of us several time in
life has come to a situation where we experience 'Hesitation'('H'), no prize for guessing that most of
the time we failed to conquer it. During school/college days we failed to ask
questions out of 'H' thinking that it may sounds silly, thought of protecting
dream reputations, to escape colleague giggles and many other reasons which
contributed not to challenge 'H'. To some extent it has proved to be hurdle in
completing our learning satisfactory.
I remember a famous quote
of Carl Sandburg (US biographer & poet) who says 'Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only
you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people
spend it for you'.
The above quotation is necessary
in this context since it has clear reciprocal relation with 'H'. More one shy
away due to 'H' ends up wasting more time in search of next opportunity to
overcome 'H'. Believe me this race continues and delay just keep thickening the
skin of 'H'. But this is not a suggestion that one should not try to beat 'H'
in next huddle. Early we challenge better prepared we are for business life. Please
not be afraid to ask dumb questions. They are easier to handle than dumb mistakes.
It is also important to
understand that there is thin line between challenging 'H' and perceive stupid.
We should not be afraid to look stupid because only you know what worth is it
to challenge 'H'. Any action/dream we try to achieve, during its course of
achievement, your surrounding is divided into three barriers groups, first
barrier treat you as stupid; Second tries to scare you in the name of advice by
narrating worlds all possible failed attempt; Third one tries to stop you; Your
believe/determination has to fight all three forces at the same time. It is you
who have to decide what is best for you as you will be the beneficiaries as
well as recipient of hitch. Before
trying we all are in the failure zone but this truth is known only by you. If
you fail in your attempt it will be known by few others. But is it going to
make much difference to your current status? Obviously it is based on the
nature of dream you are aiming for. But remember attainment of your goal is
going to be more rewarding than lying covered in blanket of anticipation. Big risk
reaps big rewards. Don’t forget the time coin.
Just recall the famous
saying of Chanakya, an Indian teacher, philosopher and royal advisor when you
are aghast by hesitation, who says "Once
you start a working on something, don't be afraid of failure and don't abandon
it. People who work sincerely are the happiest."
I have personally being
stupid at most of the time to clarify my doubts and have challenged hesitation.
I have always followed what I have believed in and have only used three tools sincerity, regularity and only hard work
to conquer what I have achieved till now. I always wanted to work abroad as
this will be means to achieve my ultimate goal (which is yet to be incarnate), so
I quit my stable well proved job to travel abroad jobless, new place, no
network, unaware of market condition which was recuperating. I was also given
better offers to stay at my current job but I want to chase my ultimate dream
and achieved it in this lifetime. Believe me it does take time and challenging
the barriers were tough but now it’s all fun. It has boosted my ability to take
risk as well as has eliminated failure fear to some extent. I am ready to taste
failure than to give up my dream. You get credit for what you finish, not what
you start. People close to me during above struggle period will tell you how excited
I was to challenge Hesitation.

Not being afraid to sell your stuff and buy a boat , if that’s what you
really want to do, might seem stupid to some people. But, if you actually do
it, you get to sail around the world and wake up in a different place every day
with a million dollar view. Not too shabby. I can vouch personally, that not
being afraid to look stupid, even if it means you’ll fail spectacularlysometimes, lets you do a whole heap of things that you once swore were impossible.
